Add the catetin.ai widget to your home screen or Mac desktop

The catetin.ai widget, called Spending in the widget gallery, shows how much your groups have spent today, this week, this month or this year without opening the app. On iPhone and iPad (small and medium), each widget shows one group and one period: the ones selected in the app, or any group and period you pick, and with iOS 17 or later you can tap ▶ to switch to the next group right on the home screen. On Android (4×2 by default, resizable), one widget lists all your groups for the period last picked in the app. On a Mac with macOS Sonoma or later, you can add the iPhone widget to the desktop, and the catetin.ai desktop app shows the spending in the menu bar (macOS) or system tray (Windows and Linux), where you can also switch the period. On your wrist, the Apple Watch and Wear OS apps show the same numbers.

What the widget shows

  • The group's name and the period: Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly, with its dates, for example Family · Daily · Wed, Oct 21, 2026.
  • The spending for that period: today, this week, this month or this year.
  • A progress bar and “% of income · limit %”. It turns red when spending reaches the group's limit.
  • Income and balance, on the medium iPhone widget and on Android.
  • On iPhone, the group and period selected in the app, unless you pick another group or period for that widget. With more than one group, a ▶ button next to the group name switches to the next group (iOS 17 or later). On Android, every group, if you have more than one, for the period last picked in the app.

Add the widget on iPhone

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, then tap Edit.
  2. Tap Add Widget and search for catetin.ai.
  3. Choose Spending, pick the small or medium size, and tap Add Widget.

These steps are also in the app under Settings › Widgets.

Add the widget on Android

Quickest way (Android 8 or later): in the catetin.ai app, go to Settings › Widgets, tap Add widget, then tap Add in the dialog your phone shows. If your launcher doesn't support this, the screen shows the manual steps instead:

  1. Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen and tap Widgets.
  2. Find catetin.ai.
  3. Drag Spending to your home screen. You can resize it.

Add the widget to your Mac desktop

On macOS Sonoma or later, your Mac can show the catetin.ai widget from your iPhone. It's the same Spending widget, with the same Group and Period settings, and no Mac app needed.

  1. Use the same Apple Account on your Mac and iPhone, and keep the iPhone nearby or on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Right-click an empty area of the Mac desktop and choose Edit Widgets.
  3. Find catetin.ai under From iPhone and drag Spending to the desktop.

Choose a group and period on iPhone

By default, each widget shows the group currently selected in the app and the period last picked on the dashboard. To show a specific group or period instead:

  1. Touch and hold the widget, then tap Edit Widget.
  2. Tap Group and pick one of your groups. Pick Current group to follow the app again.
  3. Tap Period and pick Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. Same as app, the default, follows the period last picked on the dashboard.

To see several groups or periods, add several catetin.ai widgets, pick a different group or period for each (for example today and this month for the same group), and drag them on top of each other to make a Smart Stack. Swipe up or down on the stack to switch. Your group names appear in the Group list after you open the app once. These settings work the same on iPad and on the Mac desktop.

Switch groups on the home screen (iOS 17 or later): if you have more than one group, tap the ▶ button next to the group name to show the next group (for example Keluarga → Sekolah → Keluarga). It works on small and medium widgets, without opening the app. Each widget starts at the group set in Group (by default Current group) and steps on from there. Tapping anywhere else on the widget still opens Chat.

Note: the ▶ button switches all your catetin.ai widgets at once. They go back to their chosen group when the app refreshes the widget data, for example after a transaction is logged.

See all your groups on Android

  • The widget shows the period you last picked on the app's dashboard: daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. Each card names it, for example Family · Daily · Wed, Oct 21, 2026. To change it, pick another period on the dashboard.
  • If you have more than one group, the widget lists every group in a scrollable list, starting with the current group.
  • Scroll up and down to see each group's period, spending, income and balance, progress bar, and “% of income · limit %”.
  • Resize the widget taller to see more groups at once.
  • With one group, the widget shows that group in the full layout.

Menu bar and system tray (desktop app)

The catetin.ai desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux adds an item to the menu bar (macOS) or the system tray (Windows and Linux).

  • On macOS, the current group's spending for the app's period (today, this week, this month or this year) appears next to the catetin.ai icon in the menu bar. On Windows and Linux, it's in the tray icon's tooltip.
  • Click the icon to open a menu with one line per group: group name · spending · % of income. Click a group to open the app on that group's dashboard.
  • Under the groups, the menu lists Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly, with the current period checked. Pick one to switch the app, the menu bar and the tray to that period.
  • Log expense opens Chat, Open catetin.ai opens the app window, and Quit catetin.ai exits the app.
  • If biometric login is turned on, amounts are hidden as ••••••.
  • Closing the window keeps catetin.ai running in the menu bar or tray. To exit, choose Quit catetin.ai in the menu. On macOS, the Dock icon hides while only the menu bar item is open, and clicking the Dock icon reopens the window.
  • On Linux with GNOME, install the AppIndicator extension to see tray icons. KDE shows them natively.

Open at login: turn on Open at login in Settings › Preferences (desktop app only, off by default) to start catetin.ai hidden, with only the menu bar or tray item. On macOS it needs macOS 13 or later, and macOS may ask you to allow it in System Settings › Login Items. It isn't available in the Microsoft Store version.

When it updates

  • When you add, edit, or delete a transaction, and when another member of the group does.
  • When you pick another period on the dashboard (on Android, in the menu bar or tray, and on iPhone widgets set to Same as app).
  • It follows the app language and supports light and dark mode.
  • After a fresh install, the widget stays empty until you open the app once.

Privacy

  • If biometric login is turned on, amounts are hidden as ••••••, because the widget is visible without unlocking the app.
  • After you log out, the widget shows “Open catetin.ai to see your spending”.

Availability

The widget is available in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, not on web. On a Mac with macOS Sonoma or later, you can add the iPhone widget to the desktop, and the catetin.ai desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux shows the spending for the app's period in the menu bar or system tray. For a glance at your wrist, see catetin.ai on Apple Watch and Wear OS. On iPhone, you can also log expenses with Siri and Shortcuts.

Support

FAQ

After installing the app, open catetin.ai once and sign in. The widget fills in after that.

On iPhone, touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, then Period, and pick Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly; Same as app (the default) follows the period last picked on the dashboard. Can I switch groups without editing the widget?
Yes, on iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Android has no button because the widget already lists every group.
